D.I.Y. Inspiration Board

Hey everyone! Today I have a really fun post. I'm sharing how I create inspiration boards. Every season I take my favorite catalogs (a.k.a. J. Crew) and clip out my favorite images, words, or products and pin them to a corkboard in my room. I thought that I would share how I do this!

It's pretty easy. All you need is a corkboard, pins, and a catalog.

Now comes the fun part! Flip through the magazine and cut out anything that inspires you. I usually try to stick with a color theme, which for this board was bright pink and yellow.

Once you have clipped out all of the images that you want, it's time to arrange them. You can overlap them, but I usually don't like to. The great things about pins is that if you don't like where you placed something, you can change it! Here's my finished board;

I hope you liked this post! If you make your own inspiration board make sure to tweet me or snapchat me a picture (both are @lotsoflys)!

DIY Vanilla Sugar Scrub

One of my favorite things to make this time of year is body scrubs! They are so easy to make, are great for battling dry skin, and make nice gifts! Here's the recipe (which I halved in the pictures):
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp vanilla

 Mix together the sugars.

Then add in the olive oil and vanilla.

Put it in a cute jar and tie some ribbon on it (I just made it for myself so I didn't decorate it)! This makes a super cute gift that I'm sure anyone would love to receive!

#GalPalHoliday: Serena From Gossip Girl Halloween Costume

A few weeks ago I heard about #GalPalHoliday link up (hosted by Cathleen, Rachel, and Cristina), and I knew I had to join! The first holiday is Halloween, so I whipped up a costume post!

For some reason, I have always wanted to wear a uniform. I don't go to private school, so this dream of mine will unfortunately never be fulfilled (except for Halloween!!). However, last week I posted a "life update" saying that I was considering being Serena from Gossip Girl for Halloween, and Katie left me an awesome costume idea going off of the uniform from the show!

All you need for this costume is:
-a white button-up
-a solid or plaid tie
-a solid or plaid skirt
-mid-calf socks
-a dark pair of shoes

I found everything for this costume around my house. I borrowed my mom's button up and shoes, and my dad's tie and socks. Be creative and look around your house- you'll be surprised by what you can find.

Here's a side by side comparison. I know that they're not exact, but the idea is there!

I hope you guys try this costume out, and let me know if you do!

DIY: Gold Sharpied Mug

A while ago I saw a picture of gold sharpied mugs on pinterest and pinned it to my DIY board. It has sat there long and forgotten for many months. Anyways, we were in Office Depot when I saw the gold paint Sharpie, and I suddenly remembered the DIY, and thought that I should make it. And so I did. Here's how!

What You'll Need:
  • oil-based paint Sharpie (gold, or any color, really)
  • white, oven-safe mug
  • an oven

I picked up this white mug from 99 Cents Only, and it worked perfectly!

You can choose to do any design you would like- get creative! I chose to do small polka dots on the entire mug.

 After a good 35 minutes, I finished!

When you finish your design, set your oven to 350 degrees and bake your mug for 30 minutes. This ensures that the Sharpie won't come off when you wash it. Make sure to wash your mug before using.
This DIY is so simple, and is perfect for when you are bored during the summer. I hope you try it out!
